My grandfather owned a restaurant in Boston many years ago. I still remember standing on a chair in his kitchen as a small child watching him peel the tomatoes and dice the onions and garlic to make marinara sauce. We'd hang out in the warmth of the kitchen while the sauce simmered, and as the "official taste tester" I'd get to have a small bowl of sauce with fresh bread to dip into it. I often needed another bowlful just to be sure it was good before I declared the sauce, "ready." Fond memories of a happy childhood.
I still have some secrets learned from my grandfather's kitchen and enjoy making traditional family favorites. Only now, its my daughter who stands on a chair to watch. I was happy to discover that Maggiano's Italian Marinara Sauce is very close to the sauce my grandfather taught me. Give it a try and pair it with your favorite pasta, a salad, a some crunchy garlic bread for a hearty Italian dinner.
